Food and Friends is a Washington, D.C. based non-profit organization providing meals for the less fortunate. This project consisted of a two-story structure totaling 30,000 square feet to be utilized as a large, full service commercial kitchen and an administrative services area, with a total construction cost of approximately $5M.

O’C&L was retained by the Board of Directors of Food & Friends because the project was estimated to be significantly over budget.  Acting as the owner’s representative, O’C&L undertook both a constructability study, which resulted in a re-design of the foundation, and a value engineering program.  The project was successfully re-bid and constructed with O’C&L acting as the project manager.  O’C&L was responsible for maintaining the project budget and the master schedule.  During construction, O’C&L provided a number of services.  Those services included: contract administration; schedule review; review and processing of submittals and requests for information (RFIs); quality assurance / quality control (QA/QC) inspections; conducting progress meetings; and handling document management and control.
