Olney Adventist Preparatory School
O’C&L was contacted by representatives from the Olney Adventist Preparatory School (OAPS), located in Olney, MD, about the possibility of designing plans for and permitting a new pre-fabricated classroom building to replace three smaller buildings on their property. The building was to be used to expand the existing school. In addition to constructing the new classroom building, the OAPS wished to remove an on-site sediment trap at the rear of the property that had never been filled, as well as remove a clogged infiltration trench from the existing site.
O’C&L performed a boundary and topographic survey for the site and completed a series of construction/permit plans for the new building and associated site improvements. As part of the design, O’C&L coordinated with staff from the Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services (MCDPS) on the requirements for the filling of the existing sediment trap and removal of the existing infiltration trench. O’C&L negotiated a solution that suited all parties. O’C&L developed site; grading; erosion and sediment control; stormwater management; and right-of-way plans for permits and construction that met the goals of the OAPS.
O’C&L coordinated with the on-site school management, the site construction manager, the general contractor, and various other entities to effectively permit and complete the construction of the site. A bioretention area and a microbiofiltration area were designed and installed. New utility connections were designed to provide water and sanitary service and a new storm drain system was developed to provide a safe outfall point for runoff.
