St. Patrick’s Catholic Church
The campus of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church is located in Rockville, Montgomery County, Maryland. The site includes multiple buildings including a worship facility; a religious school; a church/pastoral offices; and a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) program. All of the necessary parking areas; sidewalks; green spaces; stormwater management facilities; and utilities exist to service the site. In 2010, O’C&L was contacted by Church leadership to assist with the design, permitting, and construction coordination for an expansion to the existing CCD building. As part of this assignment, Church leadership wished to maintain a portion of the existing building walls, but remove the interior and expand the existing facility.
O’C&L worked with the owner; the church’s Building Committee; the architect; the general contractor, as well as other entities, to develop a plan that was suitable for the needs of the Church and its population while keeping an eye on costs and future use. O’C&L was able to work with the building design provided by the architect, as well as the existing site conditions, to develop permit/construction drawings for the site; grading; erosion and sediment control; stormwater management; and on-site water and sewer connections. O’C&L assisted with construction coordination, performed stakeout and offset services, and provided assistance when needed to help resolve construction concerns/issues. Upon final completion of the construction, O’C&L provided as-built surveying and the stormwater management/storm drain as-built plan to assist the client with the release of the stormwater management bond. O’C&L also participated in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) team required for building certification.
